Orphans and Vulnerable children (OVC) / CHILD MONITORS
Mid 2016 a decision was taken by Sikiliza Leo to invest more in professional OVC support by our Child Monitors. While child monitoring was successful during many years, taking care of in total 120 OVC children by 9 part-time child monitors, the Sikiliza Leo board took the decision to have fewer but full time Child Monitors with a higher level of education (minimum secondary 3 level).
Applicants send in application letters and a first series of interviews and selection based on the education criteria was made by the Sikiliza Leo Management Team in 2017.
On 7 March 2018, we interviewed 6 final candidates for 4 open positions. The candidates were asked 3 questions for a written examination, and then were interviewed one on one by Charles Opio, Fabian Odongo and Jos Noben. The overall impression of all 6 candidates was very positive, we selected 3 candidates for the job: Erick Ajwenda, Mary Patricia Awor, and Janet Robina Wori, and we asked James Ochola to do a combination of accountant and child monitoring role.
The 4 Child Monitors Erick, Mary Patricia, Janet Robina, and James will start on April 1, as a new CM Team under leadership of project manager Charles Opio. The first week will be devoted to Child Monitoring training organized by the Community Development Officer of Mulanda Sub-County. For their transport we donated 4 of the bicycles from the “Friends of Hilde” to the new group.
The new team of Child Monitors will follow the same methodology of partnership with the caregivers and the OVC children, the same team collaboration with Charles and the Nursery School Teachers, and same reporting and decision making in the CM Team, as the former CM group.
